Frequently Asked Questions - Slicker’s Sustainable Service

Sustainability FAQs

Slicker offers a sustainable waste management solution, helping our customer’s cut their carbon footprint and contribute to the circular economy. Below we answer some of your questions regarding sustainable waste management.

Why is it important to cut carbon?

By cutting our carbon footprint we can help minimise the impact of climate change. Through responsible waste management, we can make a significant difference, helping to ensure cleaner air, water, and food for our generation and future generations.

What is the circular economy?

Unlike the linear economy, where products and resources are used once and then disposed of, the circular economy looks to get the maximum value from natural resources, by reusing the same materials again and again.

How does Slicker support the circular economy?

Through our innovative base oil re-refinery, we recycle the used oil collected into a reusable high-quality base oil product. The base oil is then used to produce brand new lubricating oils, closing the circular economy loop. Unlike other service providers that process the used oil they collect into a Processed Fuel Oil (PFO) to be burnt in the marine and energy markets, Slicker’s sustainable model can be repeated time and time again, preserving a valuable resource.

Slicker also work with a wide range of partners that support the circular economy. The workshop waste we collect is sent to specialist facilities where it is broken down into component materials and completely recycled.

How will Slicker future-proof your business?

As governments and organisations come under pressure to cut their carbon emissions, businesses will be expected to form a carbon net-zero strategy to minimise their impact on the environment. Thanks to our sustainable approach to waste oil and hazardous workshop waste, we help our customers make the first step on that journey, significantly cutting carbon emissions.

Why is our base oil better for the environment than base oil made from virgin oil?

The base oil produced from the used oil we collect is far more efficient than base oil produced from virgin oil. For every 1000 litres of base oil, we produce from used oil we can save up to 488kg of CO2. That’s the equivalent carbon volume 19.5 trees can absorb each year.

How much more efficient is re-refining base oil compared to the production of Processed Fuel Oil (PFO)?

Producing base oil from used oil is also far more carbon efficient than producing Processed Fuel Oil (PFO). For every 1,000 litres of used oil that is re-refined into a base oil, instead of PFO, you can save 184kg of CO2. The same volume of CO2 7.4 trees can absorb in a year.

What is base oil?

Base oil is the main building block in the production of new lubricating oils. Oil manufacturers will blend base oil with additives to create unique lubricating products, used in cars, trucks, and other machinery.

When will oil reserves run out

According to world oil meter, at the current rates of consumption, global oil reserves are due to end in 47 years! Through our sustainable circular Slicker model, we can help preserve this precious resource.
